Johnson City - Tuesday, Jan 19th

We thought about not going. Very foggy in the morning. So foggy that we water was dripping down the sides of the camper. Checked the weather channel, you know, they're almost always right (lol). TWC said sun in the afternoon and high around 75. O.k., we're off. It's a little over an hour drive and we left at 8:45. Yes, I got up way before 8:30 to make this trip. On the road, using windshield wipers, I said to Sharon, maybe I should have looked up the weather for Johnson City, it is over an hour to the west. Driving through the hill country, it was cloudy but dry. O.k. I can take clouds.

We arrived in Johnson City and found the Visitor Center. There are two major attractions, LBJ boyhood home and the Johnson Settlement in the area. Johnson City was named after an ancestor of LBJ. His grandfather's nephew owned the land that the city buildings are now on. His grandfather's brother owned most of the land in this area. His father and mother moved into the house when LBJ was 5 and he lived here until he was married. We took a tour of the house and saw a film on the president's life at the Visitor Center. Then we went over to the Johnson Settlement. There are 3 original buildings plus an event center building that has some history.
